Comeback Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev won his maiden championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents his first title after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after that period of 2023.

Victory also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

The player's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.

But the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional victory, took control to create a final set.

He saved four early-game break points in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner secured victory with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
